Beth Ringel, Section Cello

Born in Tennessee in 1978, Beth Ringel began studying the cello at the age of fifteen, after a brief stint on the violin. Beth has played in masterclasses for Wendy Warner, David Finckel, Scott Kluksdahl, Alban Gerhardt, and Pierre Djokic, and has been coached as a chamber musician by members of the Emerson, Takács, and Orford String Quartets.

In 2002, Beth traveled through the United States and Russia as principal cellist of the American Russian Young Artists Orchestra, where she performed under the direction of Leon Botstein and Paavo Jarvi. That year also marked her orchestral solo debut, performing Bloch’s Schelomo with the Hartt Symphony Orchestra. Beth was a finalist in the Ekstrand Memorial Graduate Competition at the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2005 and 2006, and a finalist in the Honors Competition in 2005.

She completed her BM in 2003 at the Hartt School under a full scholarship as a member of Performance 20/20 (honors chamber music program), where she studied with Terry King. Beth completed her Master of Music degree with Judith Glyde at the University of Colorado in 2006.

Beth performs locally with the Fort Collins Symphony and the Longmont Symphony. She also performs frequently in Spain and the United States with her husband, pianist Alex Maynegre, as the Montserrat Duo. They currently live in Boulder with their golden retriever Greta and orange tabby Fritz.
