Violin

A native of Colorado, Nina Tso-Ning Fan began playing the violin at the age of four. She earned her bachelor’s degree in French literature from Harvard University while continuing her violin studies with James Buswell at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. She went on to receive her master’s degree in violin performance at the Indiana University School of Music, where her teachers were Sylvia Rosenberg and Paul Biss. There, she served as a teaching assistant to Rosenberg and was an Associate Instructor of violin.

Ms. Fan joined the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra in 1997. In 2002, she was the winner of a $25,000 McKnight Artist Fellowship for Performing Musicians administered by the MacPhail Center for the Arts. She also won a scholarship to participate in a ten-week independent study residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Banff, Alberta. Ms. Fan has appeared numerous times in concert in Minnesota, Colorado, and California. She is an active recitalist and chamber musician in the Twin Cities. Fan also has attended many summer festivals including the Aspen, Sarasota, Grand Teton, Mainly Mozart, Quartet Program, Bridge Chamber Music, and Mosaic Festivals. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, painting, and yoga.
