Fort Collins Symphony to End 67th Season with a Bang!

Demonstrating the awesome sonic might of a symphony orchestra, the Fort Collins Symphony, under the direction of Maestro Wes Kenney, will feature three of the most extraordinary orchestrators in classical music on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Center. Power & Pyrotechnics will showcase classical titans Sibelius, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Bruckner.

The evening will open with Jean Sibelius’ Finlandia, a long-standing testament to the fierce nationalistic pride under which it was written. The audience will then be thoroughly captivated by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s famous “Flight of the Bumblebee,” from the opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan. Juxtaposing a classically concise and technically demanding score with a comically absurd fairy tale is sure to leave everyone on the edge of their seats!

The evening will close with Anton Bruckner’s monumental Symphony No. 7, the first of three late symphonies introducing the innovative “Wagner Tuba” into his works. A powerful symphony which was written largely in homage to the late Richard Wagner, Bruckner’s Seventh has stood the test of time as one of the most beloved Late-Romantic symphonies ever written. According to Maestro Kenney, “Bruckner’s Symphony No. 7 will engulf the audience in the warmest sound bath imaginable”.

Tickets for the concert may be purchased by calling the Lincoln Center at 970.221.6730 or by visiting www.fcsymphony.org. The Fort Collins Symphony’s Season sponsor is Banner Health, the Masterworks Concerts sponsor is the City of Fort Collins Fort Fund, and the B Sharp program is supported by Kaiser Permanente. Power & Pyrotechnics is sponsored Past Board Presidents:  Bill Brown, Joseph Carroll, Maury Dobbie, Carol Ann Hixon, Frank and Jody Johnson, William Kneeland, Kathryn Quan, Stephen Schaefer, Tom Smith, Peter Springberg, and Ann Yanagi.
