There is no other composer that epitomizes the broad scope of the American music scene in the first half of the 20th century than George Gershwin. His enduring music has spanned a generation as a staple of Broadway (Girl Crazy, Strike Up the Band), the concert hall (American in Paris, Rhapsody in Blue), opera house (Porgy and Bess), and popular songs from Tin Pan Alley (Embraceable You, Nice Work if You Can Get It, Someone to Watch Over Me).

For the orchestra aficionado his music can be sumptuous and always brilliantly scored;  for those that love popular song from its earliest beginnings it is toe tapping and easy listening, for those who enjoy bravura piano and orchestra his music is a pyrotechnical workout, and for those who just love to hear live music at its best, an evening of hearing the your orchestra at its best.

Eileen May will treat you with her husky and mellifluous contralto voice to the endearing lyrics set by
Wil Swindler, an astoundingly talented composer. David Koravaar will demonstrate the argument of “what is jazz?” in Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. The Fort Collins Symphony will shine its brightest on an evening that is all about “George.” It’s Gershwin galore, don’t miss it!
