Brahms, Dvorak and Rachmaninoff, three musical geniuses that have given us some of the greatest music ever written. Our opening concert carries all of this and more. Norman Krieger returns to provide pyrotechnical brilliance at the piano. Your Fort Collins Symphony sounding at its absolute best. Let the music begin!
On the Cusp
November 2, 2013 | Masterworks #2
7:30pm | Lincoln Center
Beethoven - Symphony No. 1
Haydn - Trumpet Concerto
Guest Artist - Andrew Bishop, Trumpet
Haydn - Symphony No. 101 "Clock"
Wit, power, virtuosity from the pens of two of the most famous composers ever. It’s the turn of the 19th century, late classic style versus early romantic. Haydn is completing his brilliant career, Beethoven is just starting his world-changing one. Haydn’s “The Clock” Symphony is set side by side with Beethoven’s first. In between this contest we hear our own Andrew Bishop play Haydn’s great experiment: his final concerto written for trumpet. In this contest, we all win!
Magnificent Mahler
February 1, 2014 | Masterworks #3
7:30pm | Lincoln Center
Mahler - Symphony No. 5
Mahler returns for the first time to the renovated Lincoln Center stage. If you crave big brass, lush strings, sassy woodwinds, and percussion punctuation, this concert is for you. No other composer puts an orchestra through its paces like this one! And, just in time for Valentine’s day, a love letter to Mahler’s wife: the famous Adagietto movement. An unforgettable composer creates an unforgettable evening.
Baroque and Beyond
March 1, 2014 | Masterworks #4
7:30pm | Lincoln Center
Bach - Suite in B minor

Stravinsky - Pulcinella (Complete)
The lasting impact of the Baroque period will be felt throughout the evening. J.S. Bach’s B minor suite features our newest member of the Fort Collins Symphony, principal flutist Norman Gonzales. Webern’s transcription of Bach’s Ricercar from the famous Musical Offering will amaze you with its orchestra color. Then Stravinsky’s use of Baroque tunes will amuse you in the ballet music to Pulcinella. An evening of good things, coming in small packages.
